Taylor Swift’s label, Big Machine Records, is doing all they can to make sure every album sold counts towards her Billboard 200 debut.  In order to make sure this happens, they’ve given iTunes a one week exclusive on digital album sales.  Both Google Play and Amazon MP3 will not have Swift’s fourth album until next week.  Billboard.biz thinks this decision was made because both Google Play and Amazon MP3 have a reputation of selling highly anticipated albums under $3.49.  Every unit of an album that is sold under $3.49 within the first four weeks of release will not count towards the album’s total sales.  This means the album might not chart as high as it should on the Billboard 200.
Billboard changed this rule shortly after Amazon MP3 priced Lady Gaga’s Born This Way for $0.99 resulting in record breaking sales for the online retailer.  Born This Way debuted to 1.1 million units sold, with over 400,000 of those units coming from Amazon MP3.  While taking those numbers out of her debut wouldn’t have affected where her album debuted on the Billboard 200, it did highly inflate the first week sales.  It should be noted that Gaga’s label had nothing to do with this sale price.
Since Billboard made these changes Amazon MP3 has refrained from sale pricing albums below $3.49 within the first four weeks for the most part.  A recent exception to this was Frank Ocean’s recent release where Amazon MP3 priced the album at $2.99 in it’s second week of release.  Some think this was done to get back at Ocean’s label for giving iTunes a one week exclusive.  If this was an attempt at retaliation, Amazon MP3 wasn’t alone considering Target refused to sell the album all together because of the one week iTunes exclusive.
Long story short, Red is currently only available online through iTunes which means fans may see an extremely reduced price on Amazon MP3 tomorrow if they decide to retaliate. Swift doesn’t have much to worry about though considering her first week sales are expected to be above one million again, making her the first female artist to have two albums debut with one million or more in sales.  Purchasing a sale priced album does not reduce the amount of revenue the label and artist receive, both Google Play and Amazon MP3 are responsible for paying the label the full price of the album (not including any mark up consumers normally pay) so selling albums for less than the $7 or $8 that they need to give the label results in a loss to them.

Earlier this month American Idol season 11 winner announced the title and release date of his debut album.  The World From The Side of The Moon will be released November 19th, the same day season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson will release her first greatest hits album.  Phillip Phillips initially announced that his album wouldn’t be released until early 2013, but it looks like his record label had other plans.  This November release date coincides with all of the other recent idol winners release dates.  I’m assuming they’re hoping for higher sales by releasing the album before the holiday shopping kicks into full gear.
Well Phillip Phillips released the track listing for his album today.  There will be a standard and deluxe edition in addition to an exclusive Target edition which will feature all of the tracks from the deluxe album plus two additional tracks.  Check out the list below:
Man on the Moon

Gone, Gone, Gone

Tell Me a Story
Get Up Get Down

Wanted is Love
Can’t Go Wrong
Fools Dance
So Easy

Year of the Woman?

Kelly Rowland plans to follow up her 2011 album with Year of the Woman.  A release date has not been announced yet, however, the first single off of the forthcoming album has been available for a few months now.  The Lil Wayne assisted track, “Ice” is too similar to their hit, “Motivation” for me to get into it, but it still shows off Rowland’s wonderful voice.    Here I Am was one of the most underrated albums of 2011 in my opinion, hopefully this one will be a bigger commercial success for Rowland who has always been my favorite Destiny’s Child.

Check out and purchase “Ice” from Amazon MP3 or iTunes.

LL Cool J releases new track, “Ratchet”.  LL hasn’t released an album since his 2008 Exit 13, but the wait will soon be over as Authentic Hip Hop will be hitting store shelves sometime soon.  This forthcoming album will be LL’s 13th studio album, while an official release date hasn’t been announced yet fans can treat themselves to a free copy of “Ratchet” from LL’s website.
"Ratchet" isn’t a groundbreaking track to say the least, however, the lyrics are definitely catchy.  If you can’t tell by the title, the track is about LL dealing with a ratchet woman.  Check it out for yourselves below.

P!nk Releases Try Music Video

P!nk is known for pushing herself to the limits when preparing for concerts and music videos, but I don’t think anyone expected this.  P!nk’s latest music video was released today for her album’s second single, “Try”.  The video shows P!nk dancing and, at times, battling, with the male actor.  At moments I thought I was watching an Emmy nominated routine from So You Think You Can Dance.  Initially, I didn’t too much care for this song, however, after watching the video, I’ve definitely gained a better understanding of and appreciation for the lyrics.  P!nk acts out a tumultuous and violent relationship in this video, it’s definitely one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a while.  Check out the video above.

You can purchase the album from Amazon MP3 and iTunes.

Christina unveiled the cover art for her seventh studio album today on her twitter account.  It looks like she decided to take the idea of this album being her “rebirth” quite literally.  I’m not wowed by the image, but I don’t think it’s bad either.  Check it out above and check out the video to Lotus's first single, “Your Body” below.  The album is set to be released on November 13th in the U.S.

Last year was Glee’s West Side Story, the year before was their Rocky Horror Glee Show, and this year we’ll see Glease.  The Glee Cast will air their annual musical on November 15, however, fans will be able to hear the music from the Grease episode a little earlier than usual when Glee: The Music Presents Glease is released on November 6th.  The track list can be found below.  It’ll be interesting to see which cast members will sing which song.
Hopelessly Devoted To You
Born To Hand Jive
Greased Lightning
Look At Me I’m Sandra Dee
Beauty School Drop Out
Look At Me I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise)
You’re The One That I Want
Summer Nights
It’s interesting to see they plan to do “Summer Nights” again considering Sam and Mercedes sang this song together last season.  I bet Marley and Jake will be singing it this year.
